Midjourney Poster Prompts

One of the things that makes Midjourney so powerful is its ability to create visually appealing and effective posters. With the help of Midjourney’s generative AI, you can now easily generate stunning poster designs. Whether you’re promoting events, products, or ideas, Midjourney’s poster creation capabilities are sure to impress.

Midjourney, in its beta phase, has already been utilized to produce some remarkable works of art. Being part of the generative AI class, it utilizes deep learning techniques to establish its own descriptive framework for image creation and description. This unique approach means that even the developers themselves are unaware of everything it knows. Hence, an all-encompassing dictionary of terms for Midjourney prompts cannot exist. We are all on a learning journey!

In this post, I will share the knowledge I gained while working with Midjourney, focusing on helping you achieve your desired poster outcomes.

How to Construct Your Midjourney Poster Prompts

To optimize your prompts for Midjourney, it’s crucial to understand how it processes information. Midjourney primarily pays attention to the first 60 words, with a stronger emphasis on the initial words rather than the last words. Consequently, writing full sentences may hinder your prompting efforts. Instead, compose complete phrases separated by commas. For improved consistency in results, I recommend starting with the keyword “midjourney poster prompts” within the first 2–5 words.

Additionally, refrain from using complete sentences and, instead, favor descriptive phrases. By following these guidelines, you’ll enhance your interaction with Midjourney and enhance the quality of your poster creations.

[content type], [description - subject + adjectives], [style], [composition]
  1. Identify the content type in your midjourney poster prompts. Explicitly state the type of photography scene you desire, such as a cinematic portrait or black and white photograph.
  2. Describe your content in detail, using specific and vivid adjectives to avoid any potential misunderstandings. This level of specificity is essential to ensure your vision is accurately conveyed through the prompt.
  3. Include the style you want to invoke, referencing a particular photographer or technique that reflects your desired art style. For example, you can mention Ansel Adams for his distinct landscape photography or double exposure for a unique visual effect.
  4. Describe the composition, particularly for photos. Provide details about the camera view, scene, time of day, lens filter, film and camera types, as well as camera settings. These elements contribute to the overall aesthetic and mood of the image.
  5. When crafting your midjourney poster prompts, be mindful of avoiding banned words or topics. Ensure that your content remains PG-13, steering clear of explicit sexual content, gore, violence, and drug-related themes.

Using Existing Images to Influence Midjourney Poster Prompts

If you have a clear idea of the design you want for your poster because you’ve seen something similar, you can leverage existing images to guide your midjourney prompts. Don’t worry; it’s quite simple.

To incorporate images into your prompts, simply type or paste the web address where the image is stored online. The address should end with an extension like .png, .gif, or .jpg. After adding the image addresses, you can include any additional text and parameters to complete your prompt.

Alternatively, you can directly drop your photo into Discord using the plus sign while crafting your prompt. Then, open the image and copy its address to incorporate it effectively into your midjourney poster prompts.

To incorporate an image into your prompt, follow these guidelines:

  1. Place image prompts at the front of your prompt.
  2. To ensure functionality, prompts should include either two images or one image along with additional text.
  3. For the image URL, it is recommended to use a direct link to an online image. To ensure safety and faster processing, consider uploading the image directly to Discord and working locally.

Pro tip: Mobile users can take advantage of the simplified image prompting process by using the /blend command.

Text Will Be A Problem

When it comes to adding text to your posters, it poses a challenge. Midjourney lacks the understanding of typography. To incorporate text, you will need to rely on photo editors such as Canva, Gimp, or Photoshop.

Given the limitation with lettering, I suggest adopting a layered approach to building your poster. Begin by utilizing Midjourney to create the background image, and then leverage your graphics editor to add the necessary text elements.
